Calling the late Rosemary Ellen Guiley a “paranormal author” is an unfair description best blamed on the character limits imposed by headlines. A better portrayal of this dear, multi-faceted and much-beloved woman, who passed away suddenly on July 18th, comes from the pen of none other than Rosemary Ellen Guiley herself:
“I have written more than 50 books, including single-volume encyclopedias, on a variety of topics, A-Z, angels to zombies and everything in between. I cover the entire spectrum of the paranormal, for everything fits together, even the paranormal and the metaphysical. My work is part of my spiritual journey; probing into the Unknown, the Other Side, and other dimensions is my search for Truth. I undertake field investigations of ghosts, UFOs, aliens, ultraterrestrials, Shadow People, Bigfoot, mysterious creatures, Djinn, demons, angels, fairies and more.”
Even in that lengthy author description from Amazon, Rosemary was being modest (it’s now over 70 boooks). She was on the board of the Paranormal Romance Guild and the Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial Encounters, and was a founding member of the Afterlife Research and Education Institute. Rosemary was also a certified hypnotist, trained in bioenergy and Johrei energy healing, a Tarot reader, a dreamwork and past-life recall consultant. She was president and owner of the Visionary Living publishing and media productions company and Executive Editor of FATE Magazine. And that is still just scratching the surface of what this wonderful woman did in her 69 years of life.

If your paranormal library doesn’t have a few titles — make that shelves of books — authored by Rosemary Ellen Guiley, you cannot legally call it a paranormal library. Her most recent is Planet Bigfoot, but let’s hope she had a few more at the publisher or in the drawer that she can share with us from beyond. In fact, sharing is what Rosemary did best through her many appearances on any paranormal podcast, radio or TV show that invited her, including many memorable visits to Coast to Coast AM. She was a frequent speaker and participant at many conferences, colleges and conventions. Any documentary or paranormal television show that wanted to up their ratings often did it by featuring Rosemary Ellen Guiley, including shows on the History, A&E, Syfy, Discovery, Animal Planet, Destination America and TRVL channels. Her honors culminated with being awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 from the Upper Peninsula Paranormal Research Society in Michigan presented at the Michigan Paracon VI.
Unlike many lifetime achievement award winners in other fields, Rosemary Ellen Guiley continued to achieve during the rest of her lifetime. Here’s how she described her life’s work:
“My work is oriented around the how and why of our extraordinary experiences. It was clear to me early in life that the paranormal and the unseen realms are real, and that human beings have encounters and experiences that have been documented since ancient times. Our experiences form patterns throughout history that reveal our constant interaction with dimensions of the afterlife, spirit, the Divine, and a wide range of beings. I examine both the light and dark sides of our experiences, from the mystical and angelic to the invasive, demonic, and problematic. To know one side, you must also know the other.”
Rosemary Ellen Guiley will be missed by many on this side, but there is no doubt she’s already achieving on the other side.
