Although some people consider a trip to the beautiful Inverness area of Scotland a waste unless they see the Loch Ness monster, most are happy so breath the loch air that Nessie might have exhaled and hope to see the creature doing it, while other are content to watch for it from home on the famous 24/7 Nessie Cam. This year was expected to be low on sightings because of the pandemic, but the total is rising fast as both tourists and apparently Nessie are getting out of lockdown. There were two more recently and the year is far from over. Will 2021 break the record of 18 set in 2019?
It’s a pleasant walk, even if you don’t see Nessie
“As we got closer to it, it was scaly, black shape the size of a dinner plate that was higher at one end and was like a tiny slope.”
The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register reports that the family of Sebastian, Oscar and Alexandra Norman visited the on July 26th and took a Jacobite cruise. At around 11:30 on the way back to the dock, the Register states that Sebastian saw a “black dot” in the water about 20-30 meters (65 to 98 feet) ahead of the boat – that’s pretty much what the photograph one of them took looks like (see it here). A quick search found no other reports of this sighting, but the fact it happened on a Jacobite cruise is interesting – another recent sighting which happened later (July 31) but was reported earlier also happened on a Jacobite cruise – not a plug but worth noting.
“It appears to surface and dive leaving wakes as it swims left. When I applied filters, I could see something else a ways to the left that I missed in original at the beginning of the sighting.”
On the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register and on the Nessie cam YouTube page is the report and video from one Matt Reddick who sat in his chair in Dallas, Texas, watching the Nessie on the Net! webcam feed (see it here) on August 11 when he saw something at “3:56:00 or just before, between the clearing in the trees just above the shore in the middle of the frame, something surfaces.” Yes, it definitely looks like “something.” Which qualifies this as the 11th sighting of the Loch Ness Monster in 2021 as noted on the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register.
Did Reddick or the Normans see the real monster? A couple of other Loch Ness monster-related stories shows how difficult it is to separate fact from fiction when it come to Nessie. On August 17th, the Ross-shire Journal reported that the Applecross Inn posted a ‘photo’ of Nessie allegedly taken from its window. That would be exciting news – except the Applecross Inn is on the west coast of Scotland far from Loch Ness, the photo is obviously fake and the comment notes that “Nessie hadn’t booked a table at the Applecross Inn and had to go elsewhere.”
Meanwhile, for those watching for Nessie from home, the Daily Record warns those using Google Maps to get a 360-degree view of the loch were chocked recently when they instead saw a naked man in a full Monty pose. Yes, it was obviously hacked by pranksters.
He could have at least put on a kilt!
