A man and his daughter were visiting Scotland’s Loch Ness during the afternoon of July 19th when they noticed strange movement in the water.

According to the report listed by The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, “a man and his daughter visiting from Chester reported seeing an unidentified movement in the loch. They were hillwalking above Fort Augustus and made the sighting at 3:20pm. They said a cruise boat had passed some 20 minutes earlier but that there was no boat activity at the time of the sighting.” Unfortunately, there wasn’t a photograph that accompanied the report.

This is the eighth sighting of the year and the first since June 2nd when a man visiting from Cambridge spotted a mysterious creature for two seconds while watching the water with his binoculars. He reported seeing a hump that emerged from the water and was traveling against the waves. It was black with a tint of green and looked similar to the back of a turtle.

The other six sightings were reported by viewers watching the live webcam. The first three sightings of the year all occurred in January. First, on January 11th, Kalynn Wangle saw a “V-shaped wake” and “something black” coming out of the water. Eoin O’Faodhagain watched an “unexplained” object in the water for approximately 20 minutes on January 19th and then again on January 22nd when he saw “two objects splashing around in the bay about 100 feet apart” before disappearing in the water and suddenly reappearing again.

March 12th was the date of the fourth sighting when O’Faodhagain again witnessed two “humps” “rising up and down” in the loch. The shapes were about 10 feet apart and their movements caused ripples in the water. The fifth sighting was on March 17th when Wangle noticed a mysterious dark shape moving slowly in the water. The sixth and final sighting on the webcam (at least for now) occurred on March 26th when Roslyn Casey saw an unexplained shape moving through the water. (Pictures of some of the previous sightings from this year can be viewed here on The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register website.)

Since more people are beginning to return to Loch Ness, perhaps there will be additional sightings of the elusive monster in the coming days and months. We can only hope that someone will be able to capture even more convincing evidence like a great photo or video of the creature.
