The shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s famous 1960 horror thriller, ‘Psycho‘, is still considered to be one of the scariest scenes in movie history, even 61 years after its release. Will it ever be topped? If one of today’s Hitchcock wannabe directors wants to try, they couldn’t go wrong using the recent real-life horror thriller story of Leah Lewis, a young woman in England who claims she was attacked in her shower … by a psycho ghost. Let’s see how it might play out.
“Leah started saying that she could see and hear things which none of us could. I remember, this one evening, driving to my mum’s. She asked me if I saw the little girl stood on the roadside and I was blown away as I couldn’t see anyone in sight.”
Opening scene: Leah Lewis’ mother Colette is whispering in a darkened room to an unseen listener. The Newhall resident explains how Leah began acting strangely shortly after her grandfather passed away. The mysterious experiences quickly became more frequent … and more frightening.
“She’d come home from work and tell me about the activity she’d experienced while being there. Little did we know she would end up having ‘the man upstairs’ as she referred to him, follow her home and become our worst nightmare.”
Cut to Leah, sitting on her bed in a shadowed room. In the same hushed tones of her mother, Leah tells an unseen person that she began hearing noises and movements in her second-floor bedroom. Then she saw the ghost – a tall, bald, slender man walking out of another room. Her mother quietly reminds her of what happened next – on another night she heard a man breathing in her ear three times … yet no one was there. Add a special effects lighting flash outside the window that briefly illuminates Leah’s frightened face as she remembered what happened later that night.
Cut to the brightly lit bathroom, where we can see a woman behind an opaque shower curtain, humming as she rinses off. The camera next follows her towel up her dampened leg as she dries it off … up to mysterious scratches – deep and red. As we see her reflection in the mirror, we see other mysterious marks on her hip. Cut to Colette, who hears Leah calling from the bathroom in a frightened tone to come up there … fast.
“With her now being physically harmed, I thought enough is enough and I needed to do something about it. I asked around my friends and they asked their friends and I got quite a few recommendations for Ian Griffiths and I reached out to him giving him a small description of what had been going on and right from the get go, he was amazing.”
Cut to a man walking up to the door. It’s Ian Griffiths, a local medium. The camera follows Griffiths as he walks around the house, commenting on sensing activity and feeling a presence of a male spirit that “didn’t seem positive.” In a cutaway, Griffiths explains his experiences with negative spirits.
“Some negative ones can be very challenging at time. Some can mark you as it did with Leah or make you feel ill and put unwanted emotions on people. I’ve been affected by some negative ones, pushed, marked and even nasty comments close to my ear or face but in the end it comes down to learning about how to deal with each negative spirit that I’ve come across over the years.”
In a discussion with Leah, they identify the angry spirit as that of a man who had been murdered in the area years ago at a shop in nearby Burton and had followed Leah home from her job … at that very shop! Griffiths reveals this explains his own vision of someone following Leah home. After assuring Leah and Colette he would take care of the spirit, the camera follows him around the house, ‘blessing’ Leah, her mother and each room as he recites prayers. After the last room, he tells them the spirit is gone. With the camera, positioned behind them as they stand in front of a window in a now bright room, they watch Griffiths walk away down the path.
Cut to the bathroom … where the shower curtain flutters.
