A tourist who was enjoying the view of the waters next to Scotland’s Urquhart Castle saw something unexpected when he noticed what could be the Loch Ness Monster. The tourist was looking out onto the loch with a set of binoculars on June 2nd around 1:30pm when he saw the “unidentified creature” for about two seconds.
Gary Campbell, who runs The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, described this seventh sighting by explaining what the tourist saw, “He said a hump came up going against the waves, looking like a turtle’s back, black in color with a green tinge to it,” adding, “He reported that the weather was warm and sunny with excellent visibility.”
Unfortunately, since the man spotted the creature with his binoculars, there is no photographic or video evidence, although it is considered to be the seventh official sighting of the year.
This latest sighting stands out as it was the only one that was witnessed by someone who was at the actual Loch Ness location. The other six sightings were spotted by viewers who were watching the live webcam.
The first three sightings all happened in January. Kalynn Wangle witnessed a “V-shaped wake” and “something black” coming out of the water on January 11th. Then on January 19th, Eoin O’Faodhagain spotted an “unexplained” object in the water for about 20 minutes. Then just three days later, O’Faodhagain saw “two objects splashing around in the bay about 100 feet apart,” then they went underwater and reappeared.
The fourth sighting was on March 12th when O’Faodhagain again saw two “humps” “rising up and down” in the water approximately 10 feet apart from one another, causing ripples in the loch. March 17th was the fifth sighting when Wangle saw a dark shape that was moving slowly in the water. The sixth sighting occurred on March 26th when Roslyn Casey noticed a strange shape in the water.
While these sightings are very interesting, not everyone is convinced that Nessie lives in the loch. There are several theories attempting to explain what these witnesses are actually seeing, such an ancient sea turtle. According to a retired chemistry and science studies professor named Henry Bauer, what people are seeing is an ancient and undiscovered sea turtle that got trapped in the loch during the last Ice Age.
Another theory is that it is a gigantic eel based on DNA that was collected from the water. Geneticist professor Neil Gemmell from the University of Otago in New Zealand explained that “Eels are very plentiful in Loch Ness, with eel DNA found at pretty much every location sampled – there are a lot of them.”
But probably the most hilarious claim is that it is nothing more than a whale penis. However, according to Nessie hunter Steve Feltham, that is not possible as he stated that he has “…never seen a whale in Loch Ness, and one hundred percent believe that I never will.”
It’s still unclear as to what all these witnesses are seeing, but one thing for sure is that something unexplained is lurking in the Loch Ness.
