A man was walking through an alleyway that runs underneath Victoria Hall in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England, when he snapped a photo of what appeared to be a ghostly boy.

Bill Bradbury posted the picture on social media as he thought it would generate some historical interest in people, but those who looked at the photo were quick to point out the ghostly figure in the background.

He described the location where the photo was taken, “This area is unusual and, I suspect, little explored.” “It is below the level of much of Bolton town center, being at the level of the River Croal.” “And it’s a reminder of an older Bolton – much more of which would have been at that level. Thus I thought it would be of interest to others.”

He went on to say that he didn’t notice the ghostly figure until someone online pointed it out. The picture appeared to show a ghostly head and shoulders in a window frame. The figure looked as if he was wearing Victorian clothing.

(Not the alley under Victoria Hall.)

Some of the comments he received from people included “There’s definitely a boy at the top left”; “I can see a young boy”; “Looks like an altar boy”; and “The little boy in the window looks ghostly”. Mr. Bradbury mentioned one interesting comment he received that suggested the ghost may have been “a choirboy – possibly now incarcerated below the Victoria Hall”.

He went on to say that he took two different photographs from the same spot and the apparition appeared in both of them which seemed to rule out any type of natural light trick. “Because I took two separate photos I don’t think it can be a trick of the light, as they both had different lighting. It might be a discoloration of the window but I’m not sure,” he said.

You can decide for yourself as the picture of the alleged ghost boy can be seen here.

The location does have a long history of being haunted. Opened in the year 1900, those who have visited Victoria Hall have reported numerous unexplained events, such as hearing disembodied voices and even feeling a ghostly touch on their shoulders. Additionally, there have been reports of a female spirit who many people believe was a former Bolton Methodist Mission church member during the 1950s named Ada.

Since the area is rumored to be haunted, perhaps Mr. Bradbury did snap a photo of a boy in Victorian clothing.
