An old jail that’s rumored to be one of the most haunted locations in Florida is currently for sale. Located in Trenton, Gilchrist County Jail is on the market for just $139,990. The old two-story jail, which ran from 1928 to 1968, contains 8 cells (5 upstairs and 3 on the main level) with 8 bathrooms, and a former jailer’s residence.

Several inmates are said to still reside there even after death. Listing agent Matt Perry even admitted the unusualness of the building, “I’d have to say this is one of the more unique ones that I’ve ever seen,” “It doesn’t get much weirder than this one.”

During a 2015 ghost tour, Michelle Vance, who is the events coordinator for the jail and paranormal investigator, explained the ghostly activity at the jail. She explained that people who have entered former inmate Frank’s cell have felt tightness in their chest that could be residual energy from when the prisoner supposedly passed away from a heart attack years ago.

The first apparition that Vance saw at the location was an inmate approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall and clean-shaven. She described him as being a “very calm, very quiet little guy,” and that he was in his 60s. She claimed that he was a prisoner who became an informant and the other inmates didn’t appreciate that so they killed him.

A man named Robert was incarcerated in another cell where his spirit is known to be extremely dominant. He apparently likes blonde women and hates it when men enter his cell. Another spirit is said to be Willie James who was shot on the property in 2008 and was brought inside the jail to die. Two sheriffs were also killed on the property.

Other paranormal activity in the jail includes people hearing creaking sounds, things moving around, as well as seeing shadows and orbs and light. Numerous paranormal groups have investigated the jail over the years and have brought trigger objects for the inmates such as alcohol, cigarettes, and money. And those items seemed to have worked as the investigators have reportedly captured disembodied voices on their recorders.

Despite being a small location, it is allegedly packed full with ghosts. So if you have just under $140,000 to spare, you don’t mind a fixer-upper, and you really don’t mind several ghosts hanging around, this may be the perfect property.
