Archaeologists discovered an ancient Celtic ornament in a field in Norway that is believed to be of Viking origin and would have once been attached to a bucket taken in Viking raids on monasteries in Ireland between 500 CE and 700 CE. Must have been on someone’s ‘bucket’ list.

The production company Iervolino Entertainment and the Space 11 space travel company announced the creation of “Galactic Combat,” a new format of mixed martial arts fights that will take place weightlessly in space in zero gravity on a specially designed spacecraft with a built-in “fighting capsule” that will orbit the Earth every 90 minutes. This could bring Hulk Hogan out of retirement just to have his belly float back up to his chest.

A new study by astronomers found that the glow of satellites and space junk orbiting the Earth has caused a 10 percent increase in illumination across the night sky, washing out their view of the universe, and there’s no place left on Earth that isn’t blocked by it. Needless to say, you won’t find an astronomer driving to work in a Tesla.

Good news for coral reef lovers … researchers in Japan have managed to successfully culture cells of a coral in a lab – a step towards saving the world’s reefs which are dying from the stress of coral bleaching caused by global warming. This is also good news for parents hesitant to name their daughters Coral.

A team from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) developed a new CRISPR variant that can naturally turns genes on or off without ever touching them directly using a chemical process called epigenetics. Let’s hope they don’t waste this revolutionary find on stem cells instead of putting it in ones where we really need an on-off switch – appetite cells.

Mauro Morandi  became known as Italy’s Robinson Crusoe when his catamaran broke down on an uninhabited Mediterranean island in 1989 and he decided to live there alone for more than 30 years … until now – he’s moving back to an apartment on the mainland so the government can turn the island into a nature preserve. He never met a ‘Friday’ like Crusoe, but never gave up hope for a female ‘Tuesday’.

Astronomers using the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) instrument on ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) proved they were not seeing double when they showed that the two glowing balls in the center of the Markarian 739 galaxy, 425 million light-years away in the constellation of Leo, were the gassy glow of two supermassive black holes — the result of two colliding galaxies that haven’t finished merging. Anyone seeing four has a problem.

From the “Technology we really need” file comes news that LiquiGlide, a chemical manufacturing company in Massachusetts, has teamed up with Colgate to cover the inside of its toothpaste tubes with a non-toxic, non-stick coating that eliminates the friction between solids and liquids so you can finally squeeze every last molecule of toothpaste out of the tube. Sadly, there goes the only form of exercise some people get.

Two new residential buildings in London’s Nine Elms business district are connected by the Sky Pool – a transparent outdoor pool suspended 35 meters (115 feet) above the ground that makes users feel like they’re swimming through the sky. Despite the warning signs, terrified swimmers can’t not pee in the pool.

At the recent Nebraska Bigfoot conference, Dr. Igor Burtsev claimed to call a friend in Russia and had him put the Bigfoot on the phone, resulting in what – if real — may be the first-ever recording of Bigfoot’s voice when not yelling. If Bigfoot was on a cellphone, why didn’t Burstev have him send a selfie?
