There are a number of unexplained mysteries that probably went to the grave with Jeffrey Epstein and will never be resolved. One that stands a chance of revealing its secrets is a mysterious temple on Little Saint James – the private bird-shaped island in the U.S. Caribbean where Epstein conducted much of the criminal behavior that finally put him in jail. There are rumors of a large room hidden beneath it and plenty of seemingly legitimate purposes it may have served. But this is Jeffrey Epstein we’re talking about … what secrets will this temple reveal to the federal authorities who seized the island? Or will those secrets be silenced like Epstein?
“There’s a lot going on here. The base is painted with broad, vivid blue horizontal stripes, and supports a large, golden dome. The entrance consists of an arched, seemingly wooden door equipped with black metal hardware. The sides appear to be cut with large windows, including a full-length one in the rear.”
Insider.com reveals that the mysterious building with the golden dome resembles a temple – albeit a gaudy one (see a video of it here). The strangeness starts on the outside. (Pictures here.)
“The front is flanked by statues painted in gold; one of them appears to be the trident-wielding Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, while two others look like birds perched on the corners of the roof. It is surrounded by a line of palm trees and a terrace with a labyrinth motif. Finally, the exterior seems to incorporate an optical illusion, to create the impression that the exterior windows and door are set within carved flanges.”

Epstein bought Little Saint James in 1998, but the ‘temple’ wasn’t built until after he was released from jail in 2009 after serving a controversial 13 month sentence for a sex offense. Was this some kind of present to himself for surviving in this admittedly cushy prison? The Associated Press interviewed workers who helped build the structure who said it may have been a fancy music room for the classically-trained pianist Epstein because it had a grand piano and “acoustic walls.” However, if he wanted privacy while pounding the keys, he sure had a strange way of achieving it. A contractor who looked at the building shared this eerie observation with Insider.com about the temple’s wooden door:
“It’s styled like what you might see on a castle, with what appears to be a reinforcing lock bar across the face,” he said. “What makes it peculiar is that if you wanted to keep people out, the bar would be placed inside the building, [but the] locking bar appears to be placed on the outside … as if it were intended to lock people in.”
That sounds more like Epstein. But if he himself locked the door from the outside, how did he get back in to do whatever it was he was hiding? That brings us to the small building located nearby which was built at the same time. One theory is that the smaller structure hid a secret entrance to the temple and the rumored underground room or rooms. This ties in to another rumor that the temple was equipped with a secret elevator … and it wasn’t for going up to the attic. Of course, the smaller building could be for the property’s groundskeepers or a place for storing or treating the island’s water. And the elevator is not something placed in a building for keeping secrets, since it requires annual maintenance and inspections.
Perhaps Epstein was depressed that his temple was damaged in 2017 by hurricanes Irma and Maria. Satellite images show that the dome was gone after the hurricanes and doesn’t appear to have been replaced. Was the temple symbolically collapsing just as its owner’s hidden world did the same?

Why did Jeffrey Epstein build this gaudy ‘temple’ on Little Saint James island? Why did it lock from the outside? Is there more to it underground? What was behind his fascination with Poseidon? Why didn’t he repair the dome after it was destroyed? Will federal authorities reveal what they find in it – or under it?
Is this temple evidence that Epstein was involved in something more nefarious and mysterious than sex trafficking? Could the temple have been the center for his plans to inseminate a large group of women to preserve his DNA? Or experiment in eugenics? It’s a subject he discussed with the scientists he often gathered for idea sharing.
