Since millions of people are planning to attend the “Storm Area 51”, “Storm The Bermuda Triangle”, and “Storm Loch Ness” events, it’s not surprising that some are also planning to storm a very mysterious and unexplained occurrence in Paulding, Michigan called the “Paulding Light”.

According to a Facebook post, over 600 people are either going or interested in the event which is scheduled to take place on September 20th at 9:00 pm – the same date that millions of people have pledged to storm Area 51.

The first report of the Paulding Light occurred in 1966 by a group of teenagers and since then countless others have come forward claiming to have witnessed the strange light. Oddly enough, the light seems to appear at the same time almost every night. The bright white light glows from deep within the woods and it occasionally changes its shape and size before fading away and later reappearing.

Paulding Light

While there are different versions of the legend, the most common one involves the death of a railroad brakeman. The legend states that the valley once had railroad tracks and one night while the brakeman was on duty, he was waving around his lantern in an attempt to stop an oncoming train from running into railway cars that were stalled on the tracks. He died that night while trying to stop the train and the light that people have witnessed is believed to be the swaying lantern that the ghostly brakeman still carries while walking along the tracks.

There are other versions of the legend, as some people believe that it’s the ghost of a deceased mail courier, while others say that it’s an Indian dancing on top of the power lines. Some even think that it’s the spirit of a grandfather holding a lantern and looking for his lost grandson. Swamp gas, the Northern Lights, extraterrestrials, and headlights from cars on the highway are other potential explanations for the mysterious light.
