Mini's electric hatchback is getting closer to launch, and the tease is ramping up. Problem is, we already know what it looks like...

The pure-electric Mini Cooper S E has been teased ahead of its reveal in July, with the company showing a few fleeting details of its plug-in hatchback.

That's despite leaks revealing the car's entire design. We know the Mini Cooper SE will have plenty of yellow detailing, with inserts on the grille, wheels, mirrors and flanks. It still gets a 'bonnet scoop', though.

You also get a smattering of cartoonish, power plug-styled 'E' badges, the most prominent of which is displayed on the front grille. The same detailing featured on the Mini Electric concept, so it's no surprise to see it here.

According to reports, the S E will share an electric drive system with the BMW i3. Unlike the BMW, the Mini should be front-wheel drive when it launches.

The latest BMW i3 has a 42kWh battery pack, but those same reports have suggested the plug-in Mini will get the 33.8kWh battery from the older model, good for a range between 177km and 185km.

Official specs haven't been confirmed, but we'd suggest Mini will be aiming higher than 185km, given Hyundai gets 450km from the Kona Electric.

As for pricing, we're expecting the S E to slot between the Cooper S and JCW. In Australia, the three-door Cooper S is priced from $40,700 plus on-road costs, while the flagship JCW kicks off at $50,400.

Mini's plug-in push began Down Under with the PHEV Countryman S E All4, priced from $57,200 plus on-road costs.
